The History Of Royal Doulton

Founded in 1815 by John Doulton, Royal Doulton has more than 200 years of experience producing quality pottery. Instrumental in producing many of the pipes used to improve sanitation in London during the 1850s, Royal Doulton has always had a reputation of producing quality pottery from pipes to tableware. Over the last 10 years there has been a steady reinvention of Royal Doulton. The company has moved away from many of its traditional ranges and produced modern, functional ranges led by good design.

Royal Doulton & Gordon Ramsay

Joining forces with Multi - Michelin star chef Gordon Ramsay Royal Doulton have produced three main ranges. Gordon Ramsay Maze, named after his restaurant in London, is a stylish informal collection in several colour ways. The main Maze White range can be accented with any of Gordon Ramsay’s Maze colours including blue, grey, teal and new for 2016 denim. This mix and match philosophy allows you to build a collection which reflects your own tastes. Each range is subtly decorated with concentric circles pressed into the plates, bowls cups and mugs. This creates a tactile surface while ensuring that the main attraction is the Food. Gordon wanted Royal Doulton to produce a practical, stylish table and cookware which was strong enough for everyday use but sophisticated enough for entertaining and Royal Doulton Gordon Ramsay Maze fills the brief perfectly.

The second collection launched in 2014 is Bread Street, also named after one of Gordon’s restaurants. Royal Doulton designers worked closely with Gordon to produce a tableware that reflected the contemporary dining style at Bread Street Kitchen. The sophisticated white and slate palette is cool and modern. The range is eclectic, mix Royal Doulton Gordon Ramsay Bread Street White Dinner Plates with the Slate Cereal Bowl to create an eye catching mix.

In 2016 Royal Doulton launched Gordon Ramsay's latest collection Union Street. This casual and stylish collection is ideal for relaxed casual dining. Available in Teal and Cream the colourways can be mixed and matched to create your own unique dinner service.

Other Royal Doulton Collections

A more colourful design is Royal Doulton 1815, named to commemorate the setting up of Royal Doulton. The main 1815 Tableware is available in two colourways, White and Blue the 1815 Tapas ranges and Brights Collection allows you to add as much colour as you would like.

Another Collection which continues to go from strength to strength is Royal Doulton Bunnykins. This nurseryware line was originally introduced in 1939 and is still widely collected today for the third generation!

Royal Doulton Glassware is the perfect answer if you are looking for a quality glassware which you can use everyday but is sophisticated enough to wow your guests when entertaining. With over nine different collections to choose from the range of drinking glasses and giftware is huge.

In 2016 Royal Doulton's partnership with the design duo Barber Osgerby has created a new concept in tableware with the Olio Collection. Combining different colours, materials, textures and shapes, Barber Osgerby have created a collection which is an idiosyncratic mix. The principle idea behind Olio is that it is not a "set", it is a collection, each piece has been designed to sit alone just as well as it will sit amongst the rest of the collection.
