John Beswick Farmyard

The John Beswick farmyard is a crowded place with pigs, goats, cows and sheep in abundance. The detail studies of specific breeds have been achieved after much research. The John Beswick Limousin Bull shows all the muscular development associated with the breed. First bred in the Limousin Region of France the cattle were found to convert feed into saleable meat more efficiently and significantly faster than popular British breeds. For this reason, the Limousin was favoured for crossbreeding with Angus, Hereford and Shorthorned cattle. The Aberdeen Angus Bull is a home grown breed. Native to the Aberdeen and Angus region of Scotland, the high beef yield means the cattle is now bred all over the world and is generally recognised to produce some of the best quality beef available. The Hereford Bull is bred with or without horns. Without horns the cattle are known polled. The John Beswick Farmyard collection includes both Horned Hereford and Polled Hereford versionsl. Cattle are polled mainly for practical and safety reason as an unhorned animal causes far less damaged than a horned one. Most polling in cattle has been achieved through selective breeding and poses no disadvantage to domestic cattle. For Pig lovers the Gloucester Old Spot Piglet has the breeds familiar marking on its back while the Pig Sitting and Piglet Sitting figurines are a more generic representation of this much misunderstood creature. Considered both intelligent and clean by breeders and enthusiast the pig was one of the first domesticated animals in the bronze age. Introduced in 2016 the John Beswick Goats are available in Brown/White and White. The domesticated goat we know today finds its origins in the wild goats of South West Asia and Eastern Europe. Goats were also domesticated early on in human history as they provided not only milk and meat but its hair, skin and horns were all invaliable to early man. Said to eat anything they are an essential inclusion on many farms and small holdings. Also in the John Beswick Farmyard Collection is the Black Faced Ewe and Lamb. The Black Faced Sheep is the most prolific sheep bred and kept in Britain today. Originating from Scotland, the Black face is a hardy breed capable of grazing happily in some of the most wild and windswept areas in the British Isles. The Black Faced Sheep produces a lean meat free of superfluous fat and a wool yield that is thick and abundant making it the perfect animal for the farm.
