Royal Worcester

Royal Worcester is the second oldest English Porcelain manufacturer still in operation today. Established in 1751 by Dr John Wall and William Davis and backed by 13 local businessmen, they established a factory called The Worcester Tonquin Manufactory. The works were purchased by Thomas Flight in 1783 and it was during his ownership that it was granted a Royal Warrant by King George III and the company changed its name to The Royal Porcelain Works. Royal Warrants have also been granted by The Prince of Wales in 1807 and The Princess of Wales in 1808. In 1961 Royal Worcester launched its most popular pattern Evesham Gold which remains in production to this day. Royal Worcester went into administration in 2008 and was purchased in 2009 by the Portmeirion Group. Portmeirion retired all traditional Royal Worcester Tableware, with the exception of Evesham Gold, and introduced new contemporary designs. Serendipity, first produced in all white, was closely followed by Serendipity Platinum and a little later Serendipity Gold. These new ranges of white tableware with only subtle decoration reflected the new urban dining and loft living ethos popular today. In more recent years Royal Worcester have launched the giftware range Flower Journal which is made under licence to the Royal Horticultural Society. Decorated with detailed drawings from the Royal Horticultural Society archives and supplied in Royal Worcester gift boxes Flower Journal makes the ideal gift for someone special. Still with a gift theme in mind, Royal Worcester have produced two ranges or china mugs. Based on the designs of Morris & Co and Sanderson they are the perfect way to enjoy your early morning tea or afternoon coffee. In 2013 Royal Worcester launched their highly popular Wrendale range. Originally the range offered six different mugs but its huge success has led on to teaware, children’s ranges, textiles and tablemats with new items introduced each year. Royal Worcester has a huge history and an exciting future. All Royal Worcester Ranges are available at Kings and Queens at 20% off manufacturers suggested retail price, so start your collection today.
