Portmeirion Cityscapes
Portmeirion Cityscapes combine familiar city skylines with iconic modes of travel to create a collection which is both modern and practical. The skyline of London includes the London Eye and Big Ben in a simple monochrome design but is highlighted by one of the most recognised London transport vehicles – The Red Double Decker London Bus. Buses have been serving the capital since 1829, although these were horse drawn, but by 1902 the first motor omnibus was introduced. This bus underwent several different designs until the much loved and easily recognised Routemaster Bus was introduced in 1954. Different to buses used around the country, the Routemaster had a rear open entrance and was a Double Decker. Redesigned, withdrawn and reintroduced over the last 60 years, The Double Decker London Bus remains a recognisable part of London’s public transport system as iconic as black taxis and the tube. Why not sit back and relax on the No 36 with a coffee in the practical
Cityscapes London Travel Mug which is supplied with a practical silicone lid in case of any sudden breaking. Moving further afield the New York city skyline of high rises and skyscrapers is highlighted by the iconic yellow cab. Whether you have visited New York or not, the yellow taxi cab is recognised across the world featuring in films and on TV, it even had a whole long running TV Sitcom based around the car and its drivers which launched Danny DeVito’s successful career. Close your eyes and sip your coffee from the
Cityscapes New York Mug and you can almost hear the car horns and bustle of New York’s streets. For those who enjoy things a little simpler, Paris, with the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe, beautifully drawn as the background to the Portmeirion Cityscapes Paris collection, is enjoyed on bicycle. The rider, with striped jumper and beret is every bit the Frenchman, if a little stereotyped. Like many cities trying to deal with congestion and pollution, Paris has a large-scale public bicycle sharing scheme. Launched in 2007 the capital has 14,500 bicycles located across Paris which attracts over 85,000 riders a day. Portmeirion Cityscapes allows you to travel through the French Capital on two wheels without even leaving your chair, just loose yourself in the
Cityscapes Paris Mug with a good coffee and maybe a croissant. The fourth location featured in the Cityscape Collection is Rome. A city of Italian chic, history and great beauty Portmeirion Cityscapes has you zipping around the Amphitheatre on a blue Lambretta. The Lambretta Scooter was originally manufactured in Milan and named after the mythical water sprite said to live in the Lambrate river which flowed past the factory. First introduced in 1947, the Lambretta offered a pillion seat for an additional passenger making it practical and affordable for young people and couples. Where London enjoyed the Mini in the swinging 60s Italy had the Lambretta scooter. It also enjoyed popularity in the UK being the scooter of choice for many Mods as opposed to the big motorbikes used by the Rockers. The Lambretta epitomises Italian style and you can take a spin around the Eternal City while enjoying a nice cup of tea from the
Cityscapes Rome cup and saucer. All the cups and saucers in the range have a coordinated coloured centre to the saucer. This inventive and attractive collection is supplied in coordinated Cityscapes packaging.
