Portmeirion Botanic Birds

Portmeirion Botanic Birds features six different bird motifs from North America. A small range, which was originally produced for the American market, it has gained in popularity in the UK and was launched as part of Portmeirion’s standard UK collections in 2013. The collection includes six colourful motifs set against foliage from their natural habitat. Each piece also includes a selection of native butterflies and is finished with the triple leaf Botanic Garden Border. Botanic Birds can be mixed and matched with Botanic Garden and Exotic Botanic Garden to add a little wildlife to your collection and gives a whole new meaning to “Tweeting” your collection. The Baltimore Oriole is native to Eastern North America and is part of the Blackbird family. It derived its name from the similarity of its colour to the Coat of Arms of Lord Baltimore. The Baltimore Oriole is both the state bird of Maryland and the inspiration behind the name of the Baltimore Orioles baseball club. Found on all the sets of plates and bowls including the Portmeirion Botanic Birds Dinner Plates. The Western Bluebird is part of the Thrush family and can be found in California, the southern Rocky Mountains, Arizona, and New Mexico. The motif of the Western Bluebird used on the Botanic Birds Oatmeal Bowl is the that of the male bird which has more highly coloured plumage than the female. The Scarlet Tanager is a spectacular red and black songbird found north of the Mexico border. Although one of the smaller birds from the Tanager family he more than makes up for his lack of size with his unmistakable bird song. The Scarlet Tanager is featured on the Botanic Birds Teacup and Saucer. The Ruby Hummingbird is more commonly known as the Ruby Throated Hummingbird due to its red throat spends the winter in Central America migrating to the East Coast to breed in the summer. Seen hovering to extract insects from brightly coloured blooms it looks spectacular on the Botanic Birds Salad Plate. Found in the Western United States the Lesser Goldfinch gathers in scrubby oak, cottonwood, and willow habitats. Closely related to our own Goldfinch it makes an impressive decoration on the Portmeirion Botanic Birds Low Bowl. The final Bird in the series is the Chickadee. A generic name given to birds from the Tit family that live in North America. The Chickadee motif appears on the Botanic Birds Salad Bowl. Whether as a stand alone collection or added to Botanic Garden and Exotic Botanic Garden, Botanic Birds is an interesting and colourful range of the most popular tableware pieces. All Portmeirion ranges, including Botanic Birds, are available at Kings and Queens at an Impressive 20% off normal retail price.
