Florentine Turquoise
Wedgwood’s Florentine Turquoise is the oldest of the Florentine ranges still in production. Over the years there have been more variations on the Florentine template than any other Wedgwood pattern. There have been variations in black, green, gold, coral, orange and yellow to name but a few of the 46 documented variables produced to date. Now only Florentine Indigo and Florentine Turquoise are still in production. Florentine Turquoise was first introduced in 1931 and retains all the elements of the original design. Set against a pure white fine bone china, Wedgwood’s Florentine Turquoise was designed to impress. The inclusions of mythical griffins in the border harks back to the heraldic imagery of Royalty and were incorporated into the design to signify Royal taste and exclusivity. The turquoise decoration is edged with black enamel and includes a central motif on many items depicting a collection of fruits and leaves which featured in many of the earlier Florentine designs. Wedgwood’s Florentine Turquoise offers a complete dinner service including four sizes of plates, two bowls, a complete tea set and a range of serving pieces including tureens. Some pieces are made to order, as with many of Wedgwood’s prestigious ranges which are still made and decorated at Wedgwood’s factory in Barlaston Stoke on Trent. Kings and Queens offers the opportunity to shop from the complete Florentine Turquoise range but we do advise customers there is often a delay in supplying some of the larger pieces.
